looks very similar to the Leyland 8 GE (Rover P6 BS)
I'd say it looks exactly the same - in fact that's what it is (actually named P9 as a proposal).
It is the proposed production version of the V8 mid-engined Rover BS, which of course was so highly praised by motoring journalists when they drove it. This car looked terrific, too, and was very modern-looking for its time. A great sports car. Pity they didn't make it, but then the British motor industry was far too busy making cars like the Morris Marina at the time (late 1960's / early 1970's). I wonder why the industry practically vanished?
There was actually talk of the car being branded an Alvis at the time, as they were more synonymous with sports cars than Rover.
