Conrero with '51 Alfa 19oo chassis, and OSCA engine.

That's very close to what I have it as, although not quite the same.
But at the moment I've been unable to get on to the website where I got my info from and neither can I trace your info anywhere on the net!
So although I think you've said enough to earn the point I won't move it until I've checked my info then I can be sure I've given its correct name.

I'm actually away for a few days abroad so won't be able to move this until next week.  Be patient!

What I have is a book.
Here it says Virgilio Conrero started building his own cars in '51. They where mainly based on a Alfa Romeo, but it could be a Alfa engine, with a Lancia gearbox. Later he mainly used Osca engines. I don't know what is under the shell on Your quiz car forsure. What I know, is that chassis 009 is like I described. Also, chassis 009 is fully restored few years ago, and shiny red like your quiz car. The picture I have, also show the car in Italy, but if it is the same couple riding the car, as in the picture over here, they have gained some extra years.

Think your picture and my puzzle picture are one and the same car.    My photo was taken at the Mille Miglia 2010 I believe.
Still need to check its name as the one I have is slightly different.
Am away from my own computers until Tuesday 27/07 so will revert then-

I haven't got as much about this car as you have, although my source quotes it as having been built in 1953.
The picture was actually taken at Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano 2010, not the Mille Miglia.
So the point is yours and the puzzle is solved!

Swiss Robert Fehlmann gave Virgilio Conrero the task to create a car to participate in the XX Mille Miglia in 1953.  Conrero made a tubular chassis and used a Fiat 1400 front axle, Lancia Aurelia rear axle and tuned an Alfa Romeo 1900 engine for it.  By adopting four Dell' Orto carburetors and increasing the compression ratio, the power output rose to 130 HP at 6400 Rpm.   Conrero went to his friend, Turinese engineer Giovanni Savonuzzi to create a body for the car.  Savonuzzi modelled a bodywork in plasticine and turned to Ghia to be built.  The total weight of the car was around 800 kg, the maximum speed was 225 km/h.  The car, driven by the duo Fehlmann-Vuille, started the XX Mille Miglia as number 453 (for its start time of 4.53 am) was not successful and did not finish the race.  Some time later , the car got fire after being involved in an accident.  This car is known as the 1953 Conrero-Alfa Romeo 1900 Supersonic

After the 1953 MM Conrero-Alfa Romeo was crashed, the engine was further tuned (e.g. adding a new twin plug head, 2 45 mm Weber carburettors instead of the 4  35 mm dellorto ones,…) to an output of 158 hp and Ghia (? confirmation needed) added a new coach on the Conrero chassis.  This time the design came from a guy called Koren (Anybody who knows more of this person?)  Originally the Barchetta was equipped with a canopy roof.  The Fehlmann-Vuille duo participated with the car in the 1954 Mille Miglia, but again they failed to finish.  This is the Autopuzzle car

It was the Norwegian designer Vilhelm Koren who would be working for Bentley in the late 1950s.
