Is that RPG 418, the 1951 HW-Alta-Jaguar?
Duncan Rollo

woodinsight

No it's not that car.
The year is correct though.

Buckler Jaguara. 4.3 twin supercharged Jaguar engine. Build for Hill Climbing

woodinsight

That's the car Amsterdam - another point for you.
It was also well known in circuit racing in the 1950s.

This the Jaguara built by Gordon D. Parker of Shorne, Kent in 1951-1952.
As the name implies, it used a Jaguar engine.

blink and you'll might miss it...  :-\

Indeed it is; the engine is a twin-supercharged Jaguar 3.4 so it should be fairly quick..!
But there's a crucial word missing: what chassis does it sit on?!

A specially designed Buckler chassis.
This particular car was registered "GDP 1" - the initials of the builder's name - Gordon Davenport Parker.

I hate being pedantic, but in period the car was always known as the 'Jaguara' .  There are 10 references in Motor Sport to sprints and hillclimbs between 1952 and 1957 which all refer to G Parker's Jaguara with no mention of Buckler.  Doug Nye's definitive history Powered by Jaguar also refers to the car as the 'Jaguara' although he does say it had a Buckler frame.
I suspect that 'Buckler-Jaguara' is a later invention to describe the car, possibly by someione selling it.
It would be more appropriate to title the thread  either 'Jaguara' or 'Buckler-chassised Jaguara' or possibly 'Gordon Parker's Jaguara'

I agree with Duncan that the chassis designer's name was never part of the car's name in period, any more than it was for its predecessor "Jaguette"
However as that car's name was because it was an SS Jaguar-engined Magnette chassis perhaps a similar concatenation of Jaguar and Buckler first gave Jagualer which was modified to Jaguara . . .
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

woodinsight

I have only ever known the car as the Jaguara.....

Carnut

I bow to your superior knowledge!
I got the pictures from the Buckler Cars website, where it was described as the Buckler Jaguara so assumed that to be its correct name.  Seems not so I've changed the heading.
