Early eighties ford?

The wheels look like a set used on an upmarket Cortina / Granada in the UK!

Yes, those wheels are a dead-giveaway, so a Ford it is.
Bit earlier than the eighties though..

Is this a prototype for the Falcon GT351 or Landau of the early/mid 70's.
The full width tail lights and shortened quarter window speak of the Landau editions but there appears to be a GT351 decal on the front fender.

Study for the Mustang III ?

Yes, sort of.  It's a Mustang all right but III doesn't figure in its name.
Who's it by and what was its specific name?

I've checked other photos I have of this car from other angles and there is NO 351 decal on the front fender!
But there is the car's name...

Looks like one of many variants on the "Fox" platform that were proposed. The Fox platform also underpinned the Ford Fairmont and a slew of other spin-offs from Ford's 3 US car divisions.

No, that's not what it is at all.  It's based on a much smaller Ford than that.

Perhaps an early (and more attractive) concept of what became the Ford EXP / Mercury LN7?
