You spoke of "typos" as a giveaway clue. You mean that he created character fonts?

But that doesn't match this other reply "the photos of his drafts were made by another man", and your saying that I get a little closer with Saul Bass, who design film credits....

He made his artwork for a certain art form. Basically an art form he liked as well though not this particular genre.

The way he used fonts is a main styling element he was famous for!
Saul Bass' design feel fits in a certain way, though not to 100%
