It's been mentioned once as far as I have been able to ascertain, but as an (incorrect) answer to a puzzle; it has never been a featured puzzle (again, as far as I have been able to find out).

It's a Cyclops II - a mythical car by cartoonist Stan Mott long featured in Road & Track. That's Mott in a mockup in 1957.

Wow!! I remember seeing the "Cyclops" in car magazine cartoons as a kid but I thought it was some real (if weird) car being referred to. No wonder I never found any other references to it. Thanks for clearing up that mystery for me!
