My Geo Quiz puzzles have all been solved - so here's another!
The names of the cars are, like before, linked to the names of the places.
And, just to set this straight: 2 points for correctly identifying a car AND a location - and pairing them. No points for just a car, or just a location - so if you find one or the other and decide to give your answer without knowing what it should be paired with, it will be of help to other puzzlers, but not to yourself ;)
Points will be awarded when the puzzle is entirely solved.
Please, have a go: Geographic locations #1 to #12, cars A to L - link away!
-
And the cars:
-
Location 1, Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium - is linked to car C, 1984 Apal Francorchamps - jotage21
Location 2, Gem, Kansas - is linked to car I, 1968 Grantura Gem - Allemano
Location 3, Scorhill Stone Circle, Devon, UK - is linked to car D, 2000s Scorhill Magic - Arunas
Location 4, BankAtlantic Center, Sunrise, Florida - is linked to car F, 1996 Solectria Sunrise - Carnut
Location 5, Carrera Island, Trinidad & Tobago - is linked to car H, 1985 Carlton Carrera - Arunas
Location 6, Castello di Itri, Italy - is linked to car J, 2007 ITRI Ecooter - Arunas
Location 7, Porte de Craffe, Nancy, France - is linked to car G, 1981 Russel Nancy - jotage21
Location 8, Olympic Peninsula, US - is linked to car E, 1960s Rochdale Olympic Phase I - Paul Jaray
Location 9, Palacio Municipal, Rauch, Argentina - is linked to car K, 1911 Rauch & Lang Electric Coupé - Paul Jaray
Location 10, Burlington, Vermont - is linked to car B, 1980s Burlington Arrow - jotage21, courtesy of Paul Jaray
Location 11, Washington Dulles International Airport (airport code IAD) - is linked to car A, 1991 IAD Mini MPV - Arunas
Location 12, K1 or Masherbrum - is linked to car L, 2005 K1 Design Attack - Arunas
-
Loatciion 1 is linked to car G = Apal Francorchamps and Spa Francorchamps
-
Location 10 is linked to car B = Burlington
-
Correction:
Location 1 is linked to car C = Apal Francorchamps and Spa Francorchamps
-
Location 7 is linked to car G = Nancy and Tony Russell Nancy
-
Maybe #12 and L - K1 mountain and K1 Attack ???
I am also pretty sure that place #11 is Washington Dulles International Airport (IATA: IAD, ICAO: KIAD, FAA LID: IAD) and the car A is IAD Mini MPV.
-
Location 10 is linked to car B = Burlington
That is correct. Where is location 10?
Location 1 is linked to car C = Apal Francorchamps and Spa Francorchamps
Yes!
Location 7 is linked to car G = Nancy and Tony Russell Nancy
Yes!
#12 and L - K1 mountain and K1 Attack
Yes!
I am also pretty sure that place #11 is Washington Dulles International Airport (IATA: IAD) and the car A is IAD Mini MPV.
Yes!
-
3D: Scorhill stone circle || Scorhill Magic.
-
5H? Carrera Prison and Carlton Carrera ?
-
3D: Scorhill stone circle || Scorhill Magic.
Yes!
5H? Carrera Prison and Carlton Carrera ?
The island itself is actually the Carrera Island - but yes, that's the right one!
-
Time to promote - and if jotage21 still wants the points for his pairing of car B and location 10, he had better hurry before somebody else comes along and snatches them!
-
No credit for this, I know Jotage21 is not home, but that is Burlington in Vermont, first result if you google Burlington. He got that but missed you replies.
-
In this case, I'll give jotage21 the points, as you say you don't want them.
But I made the rules clear in the beginning of the puzzle (identify the car and the location, and the pairing, for the full two points - he didn't, he just stated that location 10 should be linked with the Burlington). jotage21 might not be at home and he last visited the site on December 25th, but that was five days after my replies. So he's had plenty of time to fix it.
For that matter, he didn't completely identify the car, either. It's a Burlington Arrow, not just a Burlington...
But in the spirit of Christmas (it's not that long ago) he gets the points ;)
-
Coul I just ask if F4 is a correct pair? ::)
And if I could ask one more question then: Is place #8 in Europe? No it isn't ;)
-
I may make a little bit risky guess, but I think that:
The car K is Baker Electric is linked with place 8 that according to that website (no cars here! I hope it is allowed): http://www.seattlebedandbreakfast.com/laconner.shtml should be Mt. Baker...
-
Coul I just ask if F4 is a correct pair? ::)
You could, and I would answer that it is. But you won't get the points unless you correctly identify both pictures - which I suspect you will.
The car K is Baker Electric
No, it isn't. As with so many cars of that era, I agree it's very similar - but this one is no Baker Electric...
...that (...) should be Mt. Baker...
...which means that obviously the link is wrong. If you take a closer look, you'll see that Mt. Baker is not even on the map I've posted ;)
-
Ok.. I'll continue looking for both, while the place 4 is still a mystery :(
-
I hope this one will be good:
J6 Ecooter by ITRI and Castello di Itri
-

As good as it gets! Bravo.
-
Location 8 and Car E:
Olympic National Park and Rochdale Olympic Phase I 1963
The other cars are quite easy, but still can't find the locations that match!
-
Yes, it's certainly a 1960s Rochdale Olympic Phase I. The picture is in fact of the Olympic Peninsula, but of course you'll get the points ;)
If you know the names of the rest of the cars, Paul, let me tell you that a very well-known search engine is your friend, and so is an equally well-known online encyclopedia...
-
#I the Grantura GEM matches #2 the post office building of Gem in Kansas/USA

I couldn't have said it better myself.
Only two cars and locations remain! Who will get the last four points?
-
car F is obvious, but location 4... ??? :-\ Does it exactly have the same name or is it translated to some other language?
-
Exactly the same.
-
Let's solve this!
Is 'K' one of these:
Baker, Woods, Waverly, Detroit, Rauch and Lang, Firestone-Columbus, Ohio,
Argo, Borland, Century, Ohio, Babcock, Broc, Flanders, Fritchle,
Kimball Regular, Standard, Hupp-Yeates and Studebaker?
-

Must confess to not knowing car F, however obvious it is...
Of course I know what car F is, as I should...
Is Location 4 the Lincoln Center in New York?Which would make car F a Lincoln, but I'm not sure about that!
-
Car F was a former puzzle and group puzzle and it's not a Lincoln.
Car K can't be a Lincoln either, because the well known Lincoln started business in 1920-21, there were other 2 Lincolns in 1905 and 1908, but manufacture is doubted.
There was a Lincoln in 1908-09, but they were all high-wheelers, in buggy, runabout and surrey form.
There was a Lincoln in 1912-13, but with a runabout and a touring model.
There was a Lincoln Electric in 1900 but it's obviously a different car (the pic shows a runabout)
There was finally a Lincoln Highway in 1914 but this car was again a roadster with a Renault-type front end.
-
Coul I just ask if F4 is a correct pair? ::)
You could, and I would answer that it is. But you won't get the points unless you correctly identify both pictures - which I suspect you will.
We already found out that F definetly belongs to 4!

Yes!
And as you say, F is not a Lincoln. I'm surprised that one has lasted this long!
-
Is Location 4 starting with "So" ?
-
Location 4 is the National Car Rental Center Stadium in Sunrise, Florida, home of the Florida Panthers who play in the NHL.
Car F is the Solectria Sunrise Electric Vehicle - a car I should know as it was the subject of one of my puzzles a few months ago!

Aaaaarrrrghh!!!
So many times I browsed pics of Sunrise, Florida, but that building never appeared! :ranton:
(also known as "Bank Atlantic Center")
-
Bad luck!
Still another one to find though...

YES!
That leaves only one, and as you know, Paul Jaray is onto it :)
-
Is the missing building something like a church or a religious building?
-
No, it's not.
-
That leaves only one, and as you know, Paul Jaray is onto it :)
We all are, but not making much progress!
-
Throwing the cards on the table: there's a pic available with a Detroit electric car painted in the same colour. Except of some details it looks very close to K.
Finding the right location is a different story, though...
-
It's not a Detroit, so you can stop looking in Motor City...
-
Found it!
Now the place....
-
The missing pair is:
Rauch & Lang Coupe1911 and Rauch City Hall, Buenos Aires.
-
And I Googled endlessly for City Halls too! (I thought the flags gave it away). But not in Argentina...!
-
I have pages and pages of cars just like that, same design, but differing in small details (rear fenders going up, lower top, shape of the door...)...that's why I posted the list of all the makers producing a car like that. Today I decided to give it the last try, the easiest one: I googled few possible combinations: Baker Electric Coupe 1910\1911, Waverley Electric Coupe...and I got lucky: the 3rd try gave me the same pic...the place was then a matter of time.
-
The missing pair is:

Why am I not surprised that it was you who got it right in the end?
Congratulations to all puzzlers on solving this. It will now go to rest, and points will be awarded in this way:
Arunas 5 points, jotage21 3 points, Paul Jaray 2 points, Allemano 1 point and Carnut 1 point.
