more significants means it's not a Marendaz, Duplex or Guy.

As a bit of a clue, it is worth noting that this car was also available with a six cylinder engine too, which was more commonplace.

Just to see if I got it right:
Great Britain
8-cylinder
#1: available also as a 6-cyl
#2: not a very minor marque like Vulcan
#3: closer to Hillman than others
#4: more significant brand...

Alvis
Arrol-Aster
Arrol-Johnston
Belsize
Beverly-Barnes
Hall
Hampton
Hillman
Lanchester
Owen
Railton
Rolls-Royce
Sizaire-Berwich
Sunbeam
Vulcan
Wolseley

It can't be a Batten, Brough-Superior, Duplex, Leidart, Palladium, for #2 and 4
It can't be a Burney...seems to young for being a Daimler, Ford, Jensen, Riley, Talbot or Triumph...

Leyland?

Humber 20/65 Coupe of 1929
It sure looks like one of these or a 16/50...but weren't those 6-cylinder cars?

Woodinsight gets the point with the 1929 Humber 20/65.

Although the sister Humber 20/55 all had six-cylinder engines, a few 20/65s were built with eight-cylinder engines immeditately prior to the Hillman merger.  I have the source material at home, so I will dig out my old books with evidence when I get home at the weekend.
