Phew, we got there in the end!  Well done Guido, and almost but not quite Autogids!

I must confess that I didn't know about this Mazda until fairly recently.  Seems it was produced from c.1971 until 1982, so strange that it remained so secret after 11 years in production.  If any other puzzlers can add any more information, please feel free.  Thanks.

Ah, I wondered which show in Europe that photo was taken.  I also wonder what based this vehicle used, as Mazda didn't produce many 4x4s in this period, apart from its pick-up trucks. Any ideas anyone?

Found this in a online library:

Factory No. 4 in Htonbo in Padaung Township in Bago Division produces 'Mazda' jeeps and other light vehicles. Recently the factory began producing MJ-1 and MJ-2 jeeps which have become very popular among users because of its low pricing. Production of these vehicles is therefore being accelerated. This factory also produces petrol and diesel engines for motor vehicles, pistons and piston-rings and batteries

I don't. Many cars from communist countries (which I believe is true for Myanmar too) are unknown in the "Western" world. Maybe made in low numbers too...

By the way, it is supposedly mentioned in this book: Kasimir Kardans Fahrten jenseits Alltag (Kasimir Kardans out-of-the-ordinary drives, to give a rough translation)

It might be somewhat based on the Mazda CA from around 1950?
