One point for the name of this car and the man who built it (he's standing next to the car)

Is this a young Bill Lyons getting into his SS Jaguar creation?!

I think that's probably too obvious for here.

how about Freddie March and a March-bodied AC?

Yes, it was a bit tongue-in-cheek because I don't think that's an SS Jaguar...

Not Bill Lyons and not Freddie March.

Much more obscure but a very interesting story nonetheless!

Clue - British but not English!

Not from Scotland - that narrows the field down somewhat!

Apologies guido I missed you reply.
Yes it is Welsh and the car still exists today as an extra small clue.

Is it the Merlin Aerees (I may a bit off with the spelling...)? If so, the man alongside is likely Dennis Owen-Rees who devised it back in the 1930s. I think it wasn't actually completed until the early '80s. If I remember correctly, it had a pre-war Daimler chassis, a Jaguar straight-six engine from a Mk2 saloon and assorted borrowed bits from other Jags and Rovers. Nice looking car, too. If it is the Aerees, I'm delighted to hear it's still around. I think Owen-Rees built some other specials, too, including a Wolseley Hornet-based racing car.

Welcome to AutoPuzzles Hezza!
You are correct and your answer is excellent.
The Merlin Aerees (you have the correct spelling) was on the market not that long ago if I recall and there was an interesting article in a well-known magazine back in 1984 about Dennis Owen-Rees and the cars he built.
This one took around 50 years from conception to completion!
I'm pleased to add a point to your score.

Here's a picture of the car, since the original is not visible. Cant find the one with Owen-Rees though.

I see the thread/ question is solved but... the car was called Merlin Aerees and it was made by Dennis Stephen Owen Rees and he was my grandfather. Very proud. If anyone finds out where it is or who owns it now, please send me an email.

The Merlin Aerees was in a VSCC event at Brooklands in 2013 I think. More research needed I'm afraid
