Winner winner, chicken dinner!
Perhaps the first automobile built in Sweden. by artist Jons Cederholm outside Ystad. This picture was taken in 1892. No meant for replication or sale, the painter and his brother Anders, a blacksmith, wanted to make a car that he could travel to into the city. What’s not known is if the car ever made the journey it was intended for. It was intriguing in its details. The single-cylinder steam engine was mounted amidships, independent suspension with a coil spring at each corner, and a chassis that one could call a “sandwich monocoque”.
Cederholm was not satisfied with the performance of the vehicle, so it was taken apart, and the were used to construct a second, different vehicle, completed in 1894. That second car was compromised by a too-small condenser, so the car could not travel more than 2 kilometres at a go. That second car still exists.
