Since the Triumph Herald was not introduced until 1959, is this actually the Michelotti  prototype for the Herald, rather than being based on it?

Are you sure it wasn't TR based, the overall look and the wheels look very TR4.

My source (which I've experienced isn't the most reliable) reports the hardtop was taken from the Triumph Herald.
Shame on me I didn't check if there's any proof for that.
It seems to be a styling exercise which finally indeed became the TR4/5 series. There was another prototype designed by Michelotti and built by Vignale that was called "Zoom". Obviousely the TR4/5 got styling elements from both the "Zoom" and the "Zest".
Additional infos are easily to find on the internet.. if they are more definite — I don't know!

As far as I understand it was based on the TR3A. Only the hardtop came from the Herald.
