A different type of puzzle here with two points on offer for the full, correct information.

For one point, please tell me what links these cars, and for a further point, let me know which is the odd one out, and why.  Enjoy!

Fine, you've (sort of) indentified that cars, but you have not given me the answer to my questions; what links them all, and which is the odd one out, and why?, so sorry, no points being awarded as yet.

kocie_ruchy

maybe it's the fact that all of them sucked in some way, apart from the cortina, which is the odd one?  ;D

Djetset

To me the Cortina is the one that sucks the most, but each to there own hey!  Anyway, nice response, but it's not the answer  ;D

well, an ignorant guess...
Is it something about using a engine designed/built/made by another company?
Then my guess would be that the Simca is the odd one (or is it's engine FIAT-related?)

Djetset

A good guess, but nothing to do with shared engine design, etc., I'm afraid.

Hmmm....I've no idea what would link the cars together, but my guess for the odd one out ... would be # 4 ... based on drivetrain.  It APPEARS (I'm probably wrong) that the rest of them are FWD ... while #4 is RWD.

No, nothing to do with rear or front drive I'm afraid.

Experts, my Christmas gift to you, as the Rookies have not been able to crack this one as yet, despite some good attempts.

Please forgive my slow answers over the Festive period, but I will be away a lot and won't always have access to my PC.  I'll respond when I can.  Until then, Happy Holidays to you all  ;D

Carnut

They're all performance versions of other cars?
Odd one out could be the Simca because it's the only one with its engine in the wrong place!
Or it could be the Rover as it's the only one with 4-wheel drive whilst all the others are 2WD?

You could be on to something here, but still not quite there as yet I'm afraid!

Hi Carnut, just tried to send you a PM, but your message box is full.

I think it is a De Tomaso question and I think the odd one out is the Simca because I don't know of a connection. Of the others:
De Tomaso used the Cortina engine in the Vallelunga.
There was a De Tomaso version of the Dodge Omni O24
A De Tomaso Version of the Daihatsu Charade
The MG XPower SV can trace its lineage back to the De Tomaso Bigua
De Tomaso owned the company that made the Innocenti Mini

Which leaves the Simca as the one I can't think of a connection.

One point to JR, as the common link is De Tomaso, but not totally for the reasons that you have given.  I will explain more once the odd one out has been correctly identified for another point though, as the Simca is not the odd one out that I am looking for :-\

All cars are international collborations, except for the Daihatsu.

The Cortina body Mk1 was done by Roy A Brown ( a Canadian, I believe ) who also did the Edsel.

The Omni is related to the French Talbot/Simca/Chrysler version Horizion line of cars.

The MG and Innochenti are Brit -Italian

And the French Simca 1000 has a lot of Dante Giacosa design features in it ( he was the guy who, amongs other cars, was responsable for the Fiat 500/600 and 850 )

BTW, the Cortina is the only one I'd like to own ( specially if its a GT or Lotus version )

Although I'd make room for a full race version of a Ralley 2 as well.... :) :)

Djetset

I like your latteral thinking MetalShapes, but unfortunately you haven't spotted the odd one out yet.  As JR discovered, the thing that links them all is De Tomaso, but some more than one other!

Have a great Christmas.  ;D

Although all cars are connected to De Tomaso, the Innocenti is the only one who was owned by De Tomaso.
So can that be the odd one?

pnegyesi

I don't think the MG had a DeTomaso special version, while the Daihatsu Charade, the Dodge Omni had such things. The Cortina engine was used in the DeTomaso Vallelunga, Innocenti was owned by DeTomaso and the Simca 1000 was used by Ghia as a basis for a special car. Ghia was also owned by DeTomaso

So my bet is on the MG

Pal, as it's Christmas time I am awarding you the point, as the MG is the odd one out, but not for the reason that you've given.  I will explain...

All the above cars have a link with De Tomaso, but the MG SV X-Power is the odd one out, because it is the only one of the six cars NOT have been sold as a specific De Tomaso model variant with De Tomaso branding visible on the car.

The De Tomaso versions of the Bertone Innocenti, Dodge Omni 024 and Daihatsu Charade (Mark I and II for the Japanese market) are well known.  Less familar though are the De Tomaso-branded versions of the Mark I Ford Cortina and Simca 1000 that were both sold in Spain in the 1960s.  After the Festive break I will scan in some photos of the De Tomaso Cortina and Simca.

Thanks for everyone's inspired contributions to this puzzle, and more 'odd one out' puzzles to come in the New Year.  Until then, Happy Holidays to all.
