Trabant P760 prototype with Skoda engine, though your source might call it Wartburg P760.

I hope this is definitive proof; As you can see, we have the Sachsenring logo in here

That's the car.  I was actually expecting the name 'Trabant' too but maybe it never officially had that handle.
Well done.

Sorry - I didn't look far enough back at the replies!
In fact Majeko gave the correct answer first so the point has been re-allocated to him.
My apologies.

Keep trying Frederick59; in fact I was waiting for someone to guess Citroen as that's what I thought it looked like, but by the time you did it had already been solved...

You can find different names for this car: Trabant / Sachsenring / AWZ (= Automobil-Werke Zwickau).
It was developed together with Skoda and there were two versions of this car: the shown two-door hatchback with a 1100 cc Skoda engine as a future Trabant, and a 1300 cc four-door version to become the next Wartburg, see picture below.

Thanks.
And here's another 2-door version with a different front:

No, that is a Trabant 610 prototype (see plate  ;) ).
That project was started after P760 failed.

Yes, I noted the plate said 610 but I thought maybe it was just a development or a different engine or something.
It looked identical apart from the different front..

P 760.

The P760 project was a joint venture by AWZ (Trabant), AWE (Wartburg) and Skoda. The two-door versions were supposed to be powered by a 1100 cc Skoda engine and be labeled as a Trabant, while the four-door versions would have been a Wartburg with a 1300 cc engine.

Merged.
