Sorry - stupid question by me.

Based on a Deutsch Bonnet, or a predecessor of one of their cars (which had Panhard engines)

No, far from that.

The builder was related to a known company, but I don't know what this particular car is based on or with which parts it was built.

All I have is the builder's name and a year when the photo was made.

Love it!
Basic design at its best.
Maybe with a motorcycle engine (BMW)?

The surroundings look like early postwar Germany?

Probably a motorcycle engine, but I guess not by BMW. It's German and from the early fifities.

Could be, but I really don't know.  :-\
I checked the products of that related company I referred to in reply#5. They built motor-cycles, but not with boxer engines. (assumed it actually is equipped with a boxer!)
East German?
No.
