Max Balchowski's famous Buick nail-head powered "Old Yeller I", first in a long series of racing specials. "Where" is a little tougher . . . could be Santa Barbara, Riverside, Palm Springs . . . . how about "somewhere out west?"
It appears that Old Yeller 1 was active from around late 1956 through early 1959 when Old Yeller II was born . . . but I'm sure you're looking for a specific race and date for your photo, and I don't have that.

Well, you´ve already named almost everything.
So this is LOCKED for you for 24h! (17:00 CET)
It is Balchowskis "Ol´Yeller #1". And this is one point for you.
Give me the race track and the year and you´ll have another point!

I found an article discussing an Old Yeller 1 wreck at Phoenix in 1961 (must have been after Max was done with the car), and although the damage to this car doesn't look all that bad in the photo, I'll try that as a guess.

No, this event took place some years earlier at a race track you´ve already mentioned.

OK then, how about Palm Springs 1957 or 1958?

O.K., I´ll give another point for this information.
The photography shows the car at a racing event at Palm Springs racetrack in the year 1958.

I appreciate your allowing me the leeway on the year . . . I was pretty sure it wasn't Riverside becuse of the mountain backdrop. Looked more like the desert around Palm Springs. The Max Balchowski / Old Yeller story is a great one, thanks for the quiz.
