Yes there are many countries in this region. But none of the ones mentioned so far is where this vehicle comes from

This looks like one of the General Motors BTV models produced mainly for Asia. It was sold as the Harimau in Malaysia and the Plai Noi in Thailand, and there was a model with different styling called the Amigo. I know these were sold in South America but I don't know if it was under a different name.

If there is a GM connection, I'm not aware of it. In any case, none  of those names matches the one I have...

I've done some more digging on this one and found that a version of the GM BTV mentioned above was produced in El Salvador called the Cherita or El Cherito depending on the source. Definitely General Motors involvement as parts came from Vauxhall as they did with the other BTV models. About 500 were produced around 1974-75.

Excellent work, it IS the Cherito (or El Cherito) from El Salvador. Apologies, I didn't realise there was a GM connection - as ever, you learn a lot on Autopuzzles!

Here's the brochure:

Or in other words: no footage available

El Salvador is NOT South America.  It is part of the North American continent.  South America begins where Panama's southern border lies.

The Caribbean Islands are not part of any continent and are, technically, neither North America or South America though the island are usually considered part of North America.

Here in schools of Brazil El Salvador is considered Central America, although itīs really North America (there isnīt a geografical division to exist Central America).

The Amigo, if I may barge in, was sold in Portugal (maybe others as well)
