Can you name the make and model designation of this apparently bland machine?

diecastaussie

Is it a Nissan Pintara 5 door hatch?

Possibly a TRX or Turbo version

Quiller

You're very much on the right lines, but the puzzle car is not strictly a Pintara ...

diecastaussie

Ok, Nissan Bluebird - was called a Pintara in Australia

Quiller

You were closer with your first guess...

diecastaussie

I believe that the 5 door version of the Pintara was sometimes called a Super Hatch

Quiller

OK yes, this car was known as the Nissan Pintara Superhatch - but also by a different name. Do you know it?

diecastaussie

Due to a model sharing arrangement between Nissan and Ford Australia, this vehicle was also sold in Australia as a Ford Corsair liftback with Ghia and Turbo variants.

Outside of Australia, I believe that this vehicle was sold under the model names of Nissan Stanza and Nissan Sentra.

You've found the Ford Corsair - well done! However this is not one of those...
(Follow the line of reasoning in your second statement  ;))

...

MG Manic

The U12 "Matilda".

Quiller

MG Manic

The second gen Pintara was known in Australia as the U12 and was initially known by the moniker of "project Matilda" in the motor media. Apparently that's not what you're looking for. It was also sold in Japan and New Zealand as the Nissan Bluebird.

Quiller

Thanks for the explanation.
The name I'm looking for has not been said yet ...

Quiller

Do you have the answer?

diecastaussie

All the information that I can find says that this body shape was originally developed in Australia where it was sold as a Nissan Pintara Superhatch the car was also subsequently exported to New Zealand where it was sold as a Nissan Bluebird Superhatch.
The car in the pic is righthand drive so there are very few other markets where it could have been sold maybe, South Africa, England or Japan although I don't think that it would have found its way back to Japan,

Please put me out of my misery on this one.

Quiller

All you say is correct - apart from one surmise.
Can anyone do the misery-put-out-of-ness bit?

Has the picture been reversed? ie is it actually LHD?

Isn't that against the rules?!

I don't think the photo has been reversed. The fuel filler is visible, and is on the left hand side of the car, where you'd expect it to be.

To think I might break AP rules!  :o
no it's RHD

mymokke

Is this a Nissan Pintara Ti Superhatch?
I found an image online with this designation and the mud flaps and lower body cladding look the same.
