This is the prototype for Edsel Ford's "Continental Car," designed and largely built by Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie, the designer of the original Lincoln Continental.  The metal was formed by the Ford Tri-Motor guys, and it used a modified Ford chassis.  If I remember, it had disc wheels on one side and wires on the other...

Aaron, I don't know why I missed your perfect reply...
All correct, as far as I know, and I can only add that the front fenders were made from wheel cowlings from a Ford Trimotor Airplane and it was built around 1934 and '35 Ford components.

This image was in my queue to post as a puzzle, but I guess I'll include it here.

Edsel Ford's third special project was this 1934 convertible.  It was not well-received by Ford management in America.  The Jensen brothers in England were quite fond of this car, and copied a lot of it's features for their efforts after 1934.

This 1934 Ford is also known as the "Special Sports".  Current whereabouts unknown.

At the time of the attached picture, I believe it was on a used car lot in California.  It has been repainted, equipped with a solid "Carson" top and a LaSalle grill.
