There doesn't seem to be much available information on what this car was and what race it was  for!
It seems to be for sale and the photo of the engine shows something that doesn't look much like a pre-war 402 engine and more like a post-war 404 with its sparking plugs on the cylinder centreline acessed through the rockerbox.

Just seen your piece on TNF but my French isn't good!
Not much pre-war in that car now, if I read it right.
Still not clear why it was built.

afraid this poor thing has come to irritate me - because apart from the body it's the chassis, suspension, transmission and rear-axle i didn't recognise as anything ever built by Peugeot S.A.
Raced in Tripoli 1938 - 2 litre? Well … not with that 203 motor (and at one time, wheels) so maybe as something else ... (hits inter-webs)
And - voila - apparently a "Merlin" special - a one off made in colonial Algeria on a chassis from Peugeot 302 / 402 - disappeared from France some time after 1958.
Now this turns up state-side with a postwar motor, some Autobleu and other tuner bits, and a Darl'mat badge? 
Since these two other photos - attached - it might be seen to have lost 3-stud wheels, an interesting steering wheel and old duco including a registration number - then only recently advertised with a nasty steering wheel and - somehow - 5-stud alloys. I would also be intrigued to see photos with detail of the (MAG ?) supercharger's pulley and manifold, (- a more common twin-carb system is visible in one interior photo) the oil filter, engine mounts, etc, etc ... not to mention some verifiable provenance.
Then there are still one or two (french) people who sound like they would be very glad to be consulted, so if anyone wants their details please pm me.

Background: first queried this on a couple of blogs late '98 and finally last year, on 'les 203', in a thread titled

Alors je confirme c'est bien la "Merlin speciale" Construite a Bonn en algerie elle est rapatriée en France en 1958, le chassis serait un 302 ou 402 legere train av 403 7 Chv, pont arriere utilitaire 203.Vitesses au plancher. Couleur bleue.Carrosserie acier reservoir et capot alu. Le moteur n'est pas une version marine il a juste un cache culbu autobleu qui etait monté sur les moteurs qui equipaient les canots,le compresseur n'est pas un constantin je pencherais pour un MAG au vu de la taille ,et elle aurait courru au GP de casablanca mais je sais pas en quelle année .Son proprio avait passé une info dans LVA il y'a une quinzaines d'années pour tenter de la retrouver suite a son vol, depuis plus de nouvelles ( le n° de serie et type sont les memes) L'affaire a t'elle été reglée entre temps ?? Je tiens ces infos du proprio de l'époque (env 15 ans)
Je tente de retrouver d'autres infos et je fais suivre

Bon alors apres avoir eu au téléphone le proprietaire légitime de cette voiture dont il possede toujours les papiers car il ne l'a jamais vendue,elle lui a bien été VOLEE en 1997.Un article est passé a ce sujet dans LVA N° 981 du 12 avril 2001. Le voleur apparament un professionnel de l'auto ancienne a l'aide de faux papiers de vente pu emmener l'auto qui etait parquée chez un mecanicien. Le propriétaire n'a jamais pu faire valoir son bon droit et n'a pas eu les moyens d'attaquer en justice le voleur en question afin de recuperer son auto ,triste histoire...

Il faut absolument déposer plainte pou recel de vol. Le vol est prescrit (c'est un délit, donc au bout de trois ans, on peut plus rien faire), mais le recel est imprescriptible, car la seule possession de l'objet volé caractérise l'infraction... Donc déposer une plainte au commissariat accompagnée d'un dossier photos, renseignements ... en indiquant la valeur de la voiture. (mieux vaux exagérer, et comme il y en a qu'une ça n'a pas de prix....) En principe il y aura une CRI ou Commission Rogatoire Internationale et les policiers pourront un jour aller saisir la voiture ! (mais il faut tomber sur un magistrat qui a envie de faire le job…"

He says he got it as a job lot from a dealer in Spain, didn't say when and was frustrated about the lack of paperwork that came with the car.

From the Les 203 correspondence someone should perhaps fill him in the story so far, but it may not make him a happy man."

Agreed, it would be very optimistic to think a happy resolution for every stakeholder was even slightly possible - but just for the sake of correctness here and rather than our perpetuating, in any way, something that should not have happened - below submitted for your consideration.
