I thought I'd try a small group puzzle until my Sports Racing Part 1 is completed.
"Variations on an Underlying Theme" links these eight cars.

Question one - what is the common factor linking the cars?
Easy, I think, and a point is on offer for the correct answer.

Question two - who was responsible for these modified cars?
All I'm asking for is a name and a point will be awarded for each correct answer.

I haven't disguised any registration numbers, competition numbers/plaques or altered the photos in any way.

I know this small group puzzle will appeal more to those with knowledge of cars of a Gallic nature but I'm certain it will be of interest to others.

Once the link (question one) is established I'll place it in the Experts section for further guesses.

So be quick Rookies this is a chance to score an initial point before it moves on......

Over 50 views and no response from the Rookies regarding what links these cars together.
Time to move up to the next level as I think this puzzle will take some time to solve.

Okay - the underlying theme - they are all based on the Peugeot 203
the cars are by:
1 - Paul Guiraud, from a rebuilt Barbier 203
2 -  Darl'mat

4 - Thomas
5 - Dubrieul
6 - Barbier
7- Constantin
8 - Dubois

Well, well, well - I didn't know you were a Peugeot 203 expert barrett!

Congratulations  :applause:

Okay, you already have eight points in one fell swoop!
By the way #5 is Dubreuil (a small typo)

#3 - is still awaiting a solution

I'll post a list of answers and then award you the points (Christmas has come early!)

Thank you  ;D

I'm no expert, I just happened to have collected most of these cars as I found them interesting, but hadn't used any in a puzzle yet.
Other than the Darl'Mat, Barbier and Constantin cars I don't really know much more than the names and in some case the years of the others

I'm sure you can carry on and guess the missing No.3 - the product of a well-known racing driver (pictured) of the era.

I knew I wouldn't get any chance...
(Un)fortunately you can find them almost all at one place...

Don't despair guys - I'll work on a few more small group puzzles like this that will be more difficult to solve (I hope).
Anyway well done barrett and I now just have to find a theme where the solution will be more obscure.

Don't forget No.3 though - this puzzle won't be put to rest until this one is solved

Okay thanks! The missing #3 is a Peugeot 203 conversion by Eugène Martin from 1952.

i don't have the french to contradict anyone on this but would love to query the origins of M. Guiraud's 140 BT 30 - a favourite of mine - as it having been a Barbier is news to me.
i can happily pm a few other photos showing some other angles and incarnations to those inclined to discuss and give the benefit of their knowledge ...

I have no information on the car being based on a Barbier Peugeot 203.
The car was built by Paul Guiraud at Ales in 1955.
I'll conduct a search for further information and post any findings here - the same goes for the other cars
