Solved: PN #20 -- Jimmy Wells' custom, cca 1953

Straight to the professionals: I only know the name of the guy who built this. So it's one point. Another if you can provide further background.

This is a beautiful one-off custom sports car built by Jimmy Wells in the mid 1950's (or 1953 as you said before).
It was featured on the front cover of Motor Life magazine July 1956 as I've just noticed PJ mentioned before (see below for a slightly bigger picture).
Information about it is a bit scant but trying best to find out more!
