Another connection puzzle.
Those five "cars" are connected by a very precise link.
Well... one of them is not really an automobile, even if it's a kind of car, and in this case the link isn't as direct. Nothing's perfect.

You have to find the link. Two points for this.
Then tell us how each of the cars is linked as precisely as possible (one point each). Identify the cars, make and model, will help you, but  as they're quite recognizable there's no point for this.

Hazardous 1

Hazardous 2

Hazardous 3

Hazardous 4

Hazardous 5

Don't let N°4 stop you.

One last precision: Car #3 is the real thing, but for 1, 2 and 5 the pictures just show the same make, year and model of the cars that you have to find. It would have been too revealing if I had showed the real ones (and that's why the pictures are black and white).

Wow!  Good guess, CarNut!

I'm not even sure what #3 IS?!?!?!? It's done up in AMC TransAm racing colors but it looks more like a ChryCo product.........And I don't think that is a SF trolley. Looks more like NYC, but I can't read the sign on the front. And all trolley cars look the same to me anyway......... But I'm pretty sure NONE has ever entered a TransAm race.....

And it can't even be that one person once owned an  example of each. Like Steve McQueen or someone. How many people actually own a trolley car?

I dunno. I have no clue. Good puzzle Ray.  ;D

Number 3 is a 70's AMC Hornet aluminum rally car if that helps you.

I believe these all fall under the link of "intermediate cars" including the train which if not a full engine only car, would be an intermediate car. Then of course the evolution to intermediate muscle car, and finally pony car.

Yes, #3 is a Hornet rally car.
But your theory is much too farfetched. As I said, Carnut was on to something.

Nope. It only means what I said: some cars are the same, same year and model as the connected cars. And not the exact color too. that's why I changed the pics to B&W. Identify the cars gets you no point, but it may help you find the link.
And it can't even be that one person once owned an  example of each. Like Steve McQueen or someone. How many people actually own a trolley car?
You're right, it's not that. As for the "trolley", it not New York and not San Francisco

Could the link be PONY?

The cars could all be called  "pony" cars and the tram is a "pony" tram, ie the powered car of a two car set.

I'll go for the most famous streetcar of them all.

So, the tram is used on the Desire street route in New Orleans (Streetcar named Desire).
The Mustang at the top may be the one driven by Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison in JFK.
The Ford at the bottom, if there's poetic justice, would be driven by Jim Garrison as himself in The Big Easy - but I really don't know.
Anyway, the link is films set in New Orleans.

Now, we're getting somewhere!
The link is not New Orleans, Jim Garrison has nothing to do with it, but it is the "Streetcar named Desire".
Keep at it, lads.

No Tennesse of any kind. Ownership is not at stake for some of these cars, so it's not the link. But this is getting us closer yet.

You forgot Tennessee Tuxedo, but it's a moot point.

Maybe YOU think so, but it seems we are getting further away.   ???

I have never actually heard of Tennessee Tuxedo, but, spurred by OP's comment, I just had to let Google further my education:
