« on: September 08, 2010, 05:37:23 PM »
Here we have a recent photo of a vintage racing car.

What is it and the year for one point.

The year is within the 1920s/1930s era.
It's not Italian though.

Not ERA - a bit too small I think!

where's the "delete" gone?

I've asked that a few times!
It was really a jolly useful button...

I don't have that 'Remove' button either, just 'Quote' and 'Modify'.
Are you sure it's not only Editors who have it, along with 'Split Topic'?

The last six posts don't belong in this puzzle.
They should be moved to News, Information & Feedback - Board Software Changes.
Can someone help?

Any more suggestions from the experts before I move it up?
A small clue - it's only 9ft 6 ins long and weighs 299 kg and is a household name.

Bingo!
One point for you.
I would have asked you for the year but Austin Seven Specials are difficult to date.
This one originated in 1930 and was reconstructed in the early 1990s.
The car has competed extensively in the UK and USA and I brought it back to Europe a couple of years ago.
My youngest daughter in the hot seat -

Yes, that post of mine (in error) that started the diversion said "Austin 7 special" - now that we see the front of it I can say it looks a very nice one and reminds me of the work of a man (whose name I've forgotten - Terry someone?) who modelled one on the GP Delage. Think he was in Liverpool area.

I thought you would recognise it Allan.

This particular car, chassis no. 43049, was reconstructed by Grant Wilson of Chichester, West Sussex for his daughter Vanessa. It looks like a Maserati 4CM that has been left in the wash too long!
It competed at many UK events - Brighton Speed Trials, Colerne, Prescott, Shelsley Walsh, Brooklands, Silverstone and Wiscombe Park in the 1990s before being acquired by Rodney Smith of Portola Valley CA in 2000.
He was well known for his exploits in Vintage racing circles in California frequently racing his ERA at various events.
(Sadly he died as a result of a cycling accident in 2007)
The next owner was Felix Brunot of San Rafael CA who used to race a Lotus Eleven (for 34 years!).
He competed at the Monterey Historic and Wine Country Classic every year until 2007.
Owing to various health problems I haven't managed to drive the car in anger yet but I hope my daughter will drive it when she is old enough (she is 15 at the moment).

Below are a few more views of the car when it was competing in the USA (it really is small!)

I would like to get in touch with the owner of this car (the original poster - woodinsight), but emails sent to the address I have are coming back as invalid. Can anyone help?
