Don't know the story behind it, but I have a model of this car!  I want to say by Maisto, but I'm not sure ... I know it isn't HW or MB or JL....but that size....

It could be an Opel Kapitän or Admiral B by the Bundeswehr (=german army)

It's an Admiral indeed, but it's not a Bundeswehr car

A US Military Liaison Mission car?

The headquarter of the USMLM was located in Potsdam/DDR (=Eastern Germany), so they used Opel Admiral from 1976 till 1979 because it was similar to Wolga M 24 (GAZ 24), which was common used by the DDR Adminsitration.

Is it an Opel Admiral used by BRIXMIS (The British Commanders'-in-Chief Mission to the Soviet Forces in Germany)?  set up on 16 September 1946 under the Robertson-Malinin Agreement between the chiefs of staff of the British and Soviet forces in occupied Germany.

Yes it is a Brixmis Opel Admiral. Most of them were converted to 4wd by Ferguson.
