Persian Arts Adorn “Golden One” Car
Iranian artists used silver, gold and shell as well as the Persian arts of inlay and filigree in making the ornate “Golden One” automobile.
The automobile was designed by Dubai-based Iranian Siamak Hojjat, in collaboration with artists from Shiraz. It was manufactured in the UAE during 2004-6.
“The car is decorated with 10 kilograms of 18-carat gold and 150 diamonds,” Hojjat said in a press release reported by the Persian service of Mehr News Agency.
The car body sports a 6.5-meter intarsia (decorative inlay) and the car’s floor mat is a genuine Persian carpet.
Hojjat noted that the car’s seats are upholstered with natural suede while leather is used on its door handles.
The artists dedicated about 20,000 hours in making the car whose purpose is to introduce Iranian art to world.
“Plans are to display the car, with a top speed of 240 km/h, in Iran. And that should happen soon, possibly within the coming two weeks,” he said.
The car is now with Iran’s Customs Administration. Following official procedures, it will be put on public display. The car will be kept in Shiraz after the public showing.
