A65 #3--SOLVED! Duesenberg Model A truck
« on: November 19, 2010, 05:02:18 PM »
OK...what is this converted heavy hauler?  I'll need the base, the approximate year, and either the converting shop or eventual user of the truck for the point...sorry for the grainy pic...

Rookies don't like prewar trucks, it seems.  Are they more palatable to experts?

This is a service truck conversion of a pre-1924 Duesenberg Model A (even though Duesenberg didn't call them "Model A", that's how they are identified now).  It was done by the Beverly Body Works for the extensive distributorship of The Duesenberg California Co., and was likely done in 1924 or 1925.  A real classic, it would be great if this car still existed. I don't know if it does.  Many of the large classics from the 1920's (Packards. Pierce-Arrows, Cadillacs, etc.) were made into tow cars and service trucks later in their lives, but this one was done when it was new or nearly so.

In the interest of strict accuracy, I probably should clarify that Duesenberg didn't call these cars "Model A" in their sales literature. After 1925, they were in fact referred to internally and in parts books as Model A's.  I have also put some feelers out to Duesenberg experts to see if any of them know whether or not this car still exists.

In any case, it's a beauty.  Thanks for posting it.
