Yes. According to what I have found this car was built in 1937 to learn the rear suspension behavior (Uhlenhaut was very unsatisfied with this factor on W25). In cca 1962 the vehicle was used as a camera car for Shell advertisement at the Nuerburgring ('Round the Ring' - see below), so billtorrance9999 was almost right, but this was not an initial purpose of the project.
