I just know now who artist 2 is, but don't want to spill the beans. Therefore a modest and carefull question: is that song about a Ford?

That's not specified in the song.

Is the song a coverversion of a song from a much more famous artist who was part of a recent solved group puzzle?

Okay, all-or-nothing:

I say Artist Number #2 is definetely Dave Edmunds and the song is "You Can't Catch Me" which is originally from Chuck Berry.
The song has a line that goes:  "Moanin' siren, 'twas the state patrol " which would match Name That Song 5.

No, the original artists were a one-hit wonder, know by most for only this song.

Nope - that's Dave alright, but that's not the song.

How about Dave Edmunds and Car Song No3:
Me And The Boys
Just a bunch of guys getting in the car
No matter who's driving or for how far.
Feels so good, yeah it's been so long.
No fancy drivers tell us how to drive
Me and the boys.
Just me and the boys.
Me and the boys.
Me and my buddies just like to go
We're having fun. Everybody knows.
We don't fuss and we never cry.
We're just grooving, taking in the sights.
Me and the boys.
Just me and the boys.

He's done a lot of car songs, hasn't he?

That's not the one in play, however.

Artist 3 - Chuck Berry

song 7 - Route 66

Oops - missed this one. You correctly identified Artist 3 and Song 7. In the context of this puzzle, that's not the match I'm looking for.

A Christmas clue!

The song matched to Artist #2 features sleigh bells, though it not in any way a Christmas song.

Oddly, this song was never covered by the infamous Mr. Bobbitt.

Artist #2's cover of a lesser-know band's original song is affixed with a title that alludes to the attributes of a place.

Just a rather untasteful joke, if we're speaking of the same Mr. Bobbitt (John Wayne Bobbitt).
I haven't the complete lyrics of this song.
I've read the complete list of Dave Edmunds songs, cover and all, and found none that could match your other clues.

That's the Bobbitt I was referring to, as well. My reference was a pun, based on a repeated line in this song. It will make more sense when the song is ID'd.  ;)

Guess the previous flurry activity was not indicative of an imminent solution. Avalanche averted, it seems. I suppose I should put it on ice in the black hole, but the Black Hole's a lonely town, when you're only car-tunes fan in town.

I'm sure the song is 'London's a Lonely Town', a remake of The Trade Winds 'New York is a Lonely Town', the Dave Edmunds version has the lyrics "From Malibu to Picadilly's such a long way".

I'm thinking car #5 is a Chevrolet Malibu.
