OK, I'll start the wild guesses:
Handley?

EDIT: I took the only make, short lived, less than 5 years, single name, not part of a group, with only 1 or 2 existing cars and made in a central state with a quite recognizeable feature: the handles on the headlamps  :disbelief:

I'll follow Pal's strategy: Indiana?
