The engine looks very much like a Motobecane

Two engines were used during production, one of which was a Motobecane.

Ladies and gentlemens, here is the wonderful Vitrex Tri 50 ! Shown at the 1978 Paris Motorshow, certificated in 1979 with the brand Marland, but never serially produced. Just one known example !

I've never read about that two engines thing. Just a good ol'Motobécane 99Z under the seat... 

And you know what ? The moustached french man you see on the picture was my first boss in motoring press !!

Bravo CMetisse!  At last this one has been solved, as it is the truely wonderful Vitrex Tri-50, which became a Marland model.  I thought more than one had been made though, as I've seen a photo of a blue one, as well as this red one here which was featured in a 1980 L'Auto Journal article.
