...I found a Mercedes 300 SL with Corvette V8 engine racing with #181 at 10th Running Santa Barbara Road Races (31.8.1958), Chick Porter, dnf.
Is it?

Same car and same race number, but I think this is the correct race:

And his last name is Porter....yes, but not Chick and not Chuck Stevenson.

Sadly crashed at the Goodwood Members' Meeting in the hands of Jochen Mass. I'm not sure how this car into the hands of the M-B historic racing team.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

The Lister knobbly it clouted didn't come off too well either.  Apparently the owner of the Mercedes wasn't awfully happy and blamed the Lister's driver of not being up to the job...!
