Hotchkiss is correct. All I know is that the picture was taken in 1917, in San Diego, California. If you can give a model identification, I'll wait until then to declare it solved.

It's an interesting body style for 1917 (or before) as we tend to associate that with modern raceabouts.
I shall try to find the model - I presume it's not the 16/20 that I guessed, then?

I said the picture was taken in 1917, but it shows the american owner, it's not a factory picture. The car could be older then. As for the model names, Hotchkiss seened to use letters ("type AD") as well as numbers ("type '0/50").
I am rather ignorant of those cars.

Yes my comment implied that the body could be earlier than 1917.
I'd forgotten the "AD" type models that Hotchkiss used - they also used the HP (or CV) numbers like 16/20. I shall have a look.

Well it could be a 1912 55 h.p. type AD "gentleman's roadster".
One in a show looked like this:

This one is a bit different, but it definitely is the same body style, the "gentleman's roadster". And who knows what can have happened to a 95 year old car? I propose to call it that and declare it solved until someone can maybe give us more precisions.
