Solved - Name That Make #27: Aérocarène Type 700
« on: September 05, 2009, 08:19:06 PM »
I haven’t posted any puzzles for a while, so now I’m going to post a bunch at one time. They may not be hard, but at least I’m pretty sure they haven’t been featured here before.

For one point: Tell the make name & country of origin

Aérocarène 1946.  It had a 2 cylinder engine AMC of 684 cm3 for 23 ch and was weighing 280kg , announced for 120 km/h. Invented by M. Desbenoît et M. Bodu, the Aérocarène never was produced.

Correct! Actually I have it as 1947, but you may be right. You didn't say the country of origin, but it's not hard to figure out from the names involved!

There's a picture of the Aérocarène in René Bellu's "Les voitures françaises des années 50' (p.230). It is much shorter than the pictures above might pretend. It was said to have been only a pre-series, but the picture shows a 'real' though provisional lcense plate (... WO).

I seen it and it's obviously the same car, with no differences... except that, as usual, even in american cars, the ad's drawing makes it look much longer and sleeker.

The Aerocarene Type 700. It appeared at the Salon De L'Automobile 1946 and 1947. Noted for it's transparent perspex steering wheel.
