BOLIDE (US) 1969-1970
Bolide Moto Car Corp., Huntington, New York
The project was a joint development of Jack Griffith (who had masterminded the Griffith/TVR/Ford combination) and Borg-Warner. The B-W Marbon Division had been developing a moulded plastic car body/chassis in the 1960s that became the AMT Piranha. The Bolide Can-Am I appears to have been a development of that project. The version shown at the New York Auto Show in 1969 bore a strong family resemblance and had the same Corvair engine, although the Can Am I was to have been fitted later with a 7000cc Ford V8 with a new rear drive system developed by Borg-Warner. It does not appear to have made it into production. Bolide also proposed a sports-utility vehicle with 4-wheel drive and a Jeep V6 engine.
