Let me just spill the beans. If somebody else gets the point, it's OK.

The 500 series Shinkansen high-speed Japanese passenger train was designed by German company Neumeister Design in the early 1990s. Head of design at Neumeister design is Alexander Neumeister (1941-), who studied industrial design in Ulm between 1963 and 1968. In 1966, he won an international design competition arranged by Bertone (who in 1966 introduced the Lamborghini Miura to an unsuspecting world).

I know that he also designed an off-road car as part of his diploma work, but I have no idea of what car that might have been. So I'm lost.

It's indeed the Bertone design competition award. Actually the car hasn't had a certain name to my knowledge. Do you think you could manage posting a picture of this car? And would you tell me the name of the award?

Recently I've contacted Neumeister Design to get more additional infos about the car, but obviousely they had more important things to do...

No, I have never seen it and I have no idea what it looks like. My sources don't tell me more than I've already said - I think that if I'm going to find out more I'll have to buy the book that's been written on the guy...

At least to tell the name of the award should be duck soup!  ;) To get the points you have to name it and on which category Neumeister won the award!

BTW: I haven't got the book, but two (fuzzy) pics..

The name of the award is the "Grifo d'Oro". As he did design a sportscar, I'm guessing that there was a sportscar category...

#10 wouldn't by any chance be a Giugiaro ski boot? He patented one in 1992 (patent no. D326761), and this one does look a bit like it has his design language of the time. I got a certain Machimoto vibe ;)

If so, the car could be... let's see... the VW Golf, for example.

No, Giugiaro was the one with the noodle..  ;D
Each of the products is related to a different designer!



About the award: Grifo D'Oro is correct, but the name of Neumeister's particular award is something more specific. There were two different catagories. (for designers a well known term and it's not to hard too guess!)

If you agree I would give you four points for this puzzle (one point less). If you disagree the puzzle's still open for all.

If you say that there are two different categories, that should make it easier - as Enrico Fumia seems to have won the Junior award that year, I'm guessing that the other category was for Seniors, or maybe professional designers.

About the points: You're the master of this puzzle, I'll go with whatever you decide.

#10 is a ski-boot, the Dachstein Scarpone Sci from 1978. Design by Paulo Martin. He have work for Pininfarina, and was responsible for cars like Rolls Royce Camargue, Fiat 130 Coupé, Ferrari Modulo 512, Peugeot 104 and Lancia Beta Montecarlo. He also designed the famous edgy b logo for Bertone.

The man behind #8 worked as far as I know always as a freelancer, but made one of the most remarkable 4-seaters of the eighties...

No7: Minox DD1 digital camera from 2003. It seems it was designed by Peter Schreyer, who designed the original Audi TT, the previous generation Audi A4 and A3 before he went on to become chief designer at Kia in 2006.
