Hi, this is the Argonaut State Limousine from U.S.A. 1959-1963.
Its name changed in Argonaut Motor Machine. The prototype has Chrysler's chassis, price between 26800 and 3600 dollars, alloy engine 12 cyl, 1010 CV (!), top speed 390 Km\h, two models: Smoke and Raceaway....only one customer could get one of them!

Even in the desert... The inconvenience of choosing a very special car, even very little known: those who've seen it remember it (and especiallly Mr. Jaray).

Argonaut is the company's name alright. My source says that this model was advertised under a specific name. What name ?

I've been always interested in this car...because it is not so old, it's been actualy produced (in 1 exemplar) and because I found only this pic! It seems that this one is the prototype, simply called Argonaut State Limousine from Cleveland, then the company changed in Argonaut Motor Machine with a line-up of 2 different models, with a lot of optionals, called Smoke and Raceaway. I've a lot of info about this car at home but just one pic! If I remeber well one of these should be the name you are looking for...

It seems you know all there is to know about that car. "Smoke" was the name I was after (see newspaper clip below).
Here is the url of the Wikipedia page about the Argonaut. It appears that the produced car had little in common with that drawing (and I seriously doubt it had a 1010 hp engine and was good for 240 mph...)

If you're into weird cars, like I am, this is quite well-known. But of course, going on holiday means less chance to solve a nice puzzle when it comes along :) still it proves, yet again, that what is quite familiar to one AutoPuzzler is brand new to another.

It wasn't brand new to me. I just can't resist posting puzzles with this kind of far-out cars.

Hmmm... so it's name is actually "Smoke"? I have another newspaper clip where it reads Just State Limousine, in the versions "Raceaway" and "Smoke"... But I guess that story makes more sense. Sorry for the repost, I'll do a search next time before posting.

Do that. We all made several re-posts and eventually learned to do it automatically before posting a new puzzle. The search feature allows it easily. That is why it is also important to add the car's name in the topic title once it's solved.

Since the answer was somewhere on Autopuzzles, I don't think so... But don't take my word for it, wait for an administrator to answer.

I'd say a point is due. There is no reason to penalize gbitas. We can't expect puzzle solvers to search the database to see if a duplicate puzzle was solved before.

Here is the Popular Science article, with pictures, mentioned by Wikipedia. There were supposed to be several models, and there are pictures of both the "State Limousine" and the "Smoke". Both are definitely model names. Argonaut was the make.
