Ford teased Thunderbird lovers at the 1964 Chicago show with the one-of-a-kind Golden Palomino. Based on the T-bird coupe, the Golden Palomino featured pop-up roof panels that raised when the doors opened. The car was painted gold, tan and white. Elegant Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels plated in gold, and special trim further accented the custom bird.
Ford had tried similar flipper roof panels as early as 1958, but found sealing problem and additional production cost a tough nut to crack.
This car proved popular on the Auto Show circuit, and continued to be shown through the summer of 1965.
