Something a little different with two points up for offer.
1st point is for telling me what the make and model of this car is.
2nd point is for telling me the event/location at which it appeared in this form.
I'll post the full picture after both points have been awarded.
(PS sorry it's such a small pic but thats kind of out of neccessity)

Well, to begin with something, let's make a supposition that it's not a Formula-1 car, but maybe a F-5000 one, although it may well be some other serie as well.

I'm quite suprised no-ones had much of a go at this one. So I'll give everyone a bit of a hint by saying that the car itself is not as obscure as would normally be the case on Autopuzzles. Also just a reminder that it would not normally look the same at the back as it does in this pic - it was a one off experiment.
Sorry if I'm stating things everyone already realised but I wasn't sure if it I'd been 100% clear in my opening post.

Was it usually covered with bodywork - say, like a Can-Am car?

No the car was bult as an open wheeled car. The modifications did not change the category of racing it was eligable for or was racing in.

All info present and correct, well done both points go to you. 8)
Shown below is the full uncropped pic plus a second (taken at the same meeting but on a different day I think) of the car on the only occasion it appeared in this form.
