If it is Australian (is it a Holden on the outside?), it would be quite hard to guess for me :)

I don't think theres any connection. In fact I think (but I'm by no means sure) that the Tornado was Australian.

On reflection, it was Australian, but I saw a photo of it racing in NZ and it looked as if it might fit the bill  :bag:

Hmm...that puts me in a slightly difficult position. Faksta can you provide me with a few more details of the car you're thinking of?
(If everyone else can hold off from replying for now)

It seems there was a typo is my source and it should be called a Zephyr Special :) There is another Australasian Zephyr Special, so I considered that this one was called Zepher to avoid confusion.

OK the point is yours, well done.  8) This car has had quite a few names including Zephyr Special, RA Zephyr (It was originally built by Hec Green I believe) and the name I first found it under - 260M Zephyr Special. As you say it is also sometimes called the Zepher special on some internet sources. I'm not familiar enough with the car to say if that is just a typo or not to be honest...
Also as you say there is another Zephyr special which I didn't find out about until after posting this puzzle. I did think you might have been thinking of that car but since you are aware of both I can't image you're thinking of the wrong one. Especially as they don't look very similar (see below) and the other car is (I think) Australian not Kiwi.

It is Australian and it is indeed very different, especially when you look from the side. Well, since you have posted a picture of another Zephyr Special (aka Norholfordor), here is a period shot. The characteristic trait are those half-moon vents on the side of its bonnet and also those pipes on the top of it.

Yep although I think the 260M had a Vauxhall engine and was called the RA Vauxhall before gaining its Zephyr engine. In fact it might have started out as something else even before that...
