als_06 - Solved by pnegyesi & 75 america - Name the Country
« on: October 22, 2009, 07:44:15 AM »
This is an easy multiple puzzle.
For one point each correct answer, tell me in which Country have these cars been built and why are you sure of that (I mean: a unique detail of that specific model made in that specific Country). The second part of the answer is just to avoid playing battleship, which wouldn't be the correct aim of the puzzle.

More than 50 views and no one guess!  ???
I really thought it's an easy puzzle and Rookies would have eaten it up in half an hour...
So, up to Experts.

01 is a Fiat Palio, and looking at that background, possibly from India. As we have another car from India, so my 2nd guess is Pakistan
02 is a Fiat Stilo from Brazil.
03 is a Fiat Doblo which is being exclusively produced in Turkey by Tofas. It is also being assembled in Russia
04 is a Fiat Idea, probably one which was made in Brazil
05 is probably a "Maluch", the Fiat 126p made in Poland at FSM.
06 is a Premier Padmini, probably a 137D
I guess 010 is a Zastava 750 from the former Yugoslavia
011 is a Steyr-Puch from Austria
and I guess 012 is a Lombardi-made five-door Fiat 127

Something is right, something not...  ;)
But I also need the reasons of your answers. All that cars have for sure a typical detail specific of that only Country of origin, and I aslo need to know it.
An example could help. In the photo below you could tell that it's made in Ygoslavia (actually it's a Zastava 101, local version of the Fiat 128, of course) because it's a fastback and the festback 128 has only been built in Yugoslavia.

Two additional info: all the pictures are orginal press-photos, not altered nor modified in any way.
All the car are official Fiat or Fiat joint-ventures/localized factories/foreign partnerships/licensings. No coachbuilders here.

06 is a Premier Padmini, probably a 137D. The logo on the front is the giveaway
011 is a Steyr-Puch from Austria - again I looked at the logo

04: Fiat Idea from Brazil. I visited the Fiat Brazilian media site and found a lot of other photos featuring the same guy and lady. Is that proof enough :)?

As for the Fiat Doblo. It is true that previous-generation models were assembled in Vietnam and North Korea and it is still being built in Brazil. But the current generation is only being built in Turkey and small-scale assembly takes place in Russia. It is reported that Zotye will build the previous-generation Doblo in China and Topco in Iran is also constructing a plant for Fiat assembly, but it has not started yet.

;D Sorry, the people don't count as a proof. Look at the car: there is something very evident just in front... of you, which tells that it's a Brazilian and not an Italian Idea. I'm sure you will find this detail.
However this car is locked for you.

 Thtat's the proof I wanted: the second series Doblò is actually made only in Turkey.
I knew you would have been the right expert for this puzzle!

I'd return to Number 10: again, the logo is telling that it is indeed a Zastava 750 from Kragujevac, Yugoslavia.

As for No4, maybe the sunroof?

1 Fiat Palio.  This is a LHD version and has a ‘Go’ badge on the front wing and trunk lid.  So this one must come from South Africa.
2 Fiat Stilo Schumacher Season 2005 in 5-door livery was only produced in Brazil.
3 Fiat Doblo from Turkey.  It has an Italian license plate so it must be a Turkish built one.  Also, the Brazilian one is still the pre-face lifted one I think.  As is the one built in North Korea (That one has also no Fiat Badge).  I believe that the one built in Russia is identical to the Turkish built one but because production started only in may 2007, I assume that all of them have the new Fiat logo on the grill.
4: Fiat Idea from Brazil had amongst others a specific grill and position of the fog lights.  This particular one is also equipped with the panoramic glass roof which was by my knowledge not available in Europe.
5: Fiat 126 650E made by FSM in Poland .  Production of the 126 stopped in Italy in 1980 and Austrian production was stopped in the seventies.  Production of the 126 650E only started later on.
6: Premier Padmini from India.  The antique body with the ‘modern’ plastic wheel covers can only be a Premier.
7: 1966 Neckar Millecento.  The badge on the grill is not a Fiat badge and looks like a Neckar one.
8: Fiat Bravo from Italy.  I think that the Bravo was only produced in Italy.
9: Fiat 127 from Spain.  Because it has 5 doors.
10: Zastava 750 from Serbia.  Because of the circular logo on the front
11: Steyr-Puch 500 D from Austria.  Because of the metal roof.
12: Fiat 128 Rural from Argentina.  It was the only country where a 5 door wagon of the 128 was made.

Outstanding performance of 75america!  :applause: :applause: :applause:
12 correct out of 12!

Unfortunately a few ones were already been solved by pnegyesi.

Coming back to the Idea, I'll not assign the point, because it was theoretically locked for pnegyesi but 75america gave however the right answer.
By the way, the easiest proof it's Brazilian was that the instrument cluster is in front of the driver (Palio platform) and not in the center of the dashboard (Punto platform)...

So,here is the final result.

#01 South-Africa (Fiat Palio "Go" special-series) 75america
#02 Brazil (Fiat Stilo 5-door "Michael Schumacher" special-series) 75america
#03 Turkey (Fiat Doblò 2nd series) pnegyesi
#04 Brazil (Fiat Idea) not assigned
#05 Poland (Fiat 126 FSM) 75america
#06 India (PAL Padmini) pnegyesi
#07 Germany (Neckar Millecento) 75america
#08 Italy (Fiat Bravo) 75america
#09 Spain (Fiat 127 5-door) 75america
#10 Serbia/Yugoslavia (Zastava 750) pnegyesi
#11 Austria (Steyr-Puch 500 D) pnegyesi
#12 Argentina (Fiat-Concord 128 Rural) 75america

I also mentioned the sunroof for the Brazilian Idea and the logo of the Zastava earlier than 75america. Otherwise everything is great

You are right about the Zastava, sorry. Just corrected the results and scores.

About the sunroof, this isn't a proof: the Italian Idea too has the glass sunroof (it's called the "Skydome". See the picture below). Grill frame, fog-lamps position or cockpit could have been the correct answers, but I prefer not to assign this point due to the answering overlapping.
