Even More Cars and Tunes - Solved by Ray B., neilshous and max
« on: February 28, 2009, 08:20:44 AM »
In this case, the titles of the songs are not always the name of car, but the song is about a car, or cars, or the 'car culture'.

So, to earn points, name the artist, match them to a car, and identify the song that ties them together. Warning some are deceptively easy; others are quite obscure.

Car Songs:

1 - Boss Barracuda  Ray B.
2 - Candy Apple Red (inspried by a Fairlane Hardtop Convertible)   Ray B.
3 - Jeepster   neilshouse
4 - Dead Man's Curve   neilshouse
5 - Holiday Road   neilshouse
6 - Antique 32 Studebaker Dictator Coupe   max
7 - Lowrider   Ray B.
8 - Rocket 88   Ray B.
9 - Kustom Kar Show   Ray B.
10 - Who Would Love this Car but Me?   Ray B.

Artist:

1- Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm - Ray B.
2 - David Marks and the Marksmen - Ray B.
3 - T-Rex   - neilshouse
4 - Ronny and the Daytonas   - max
5 - War - Ray B.
6 - Lindsey Buckingham - neilshouse
7 - Joanie Sommers - Ray B
8 - Jan and Dean - neilshouse
9 - Brian Setzer Orchestra - Ray B.
10 - Bonnie Guitar - Ray B.

And the points:

Ray B. Songs: 6   Artists: 6      Pairs 6   Total:18

neilshouse: Songs: 3   Artists: 3    Pairs: 3   Total: 9

max: Songs:1   Artists: 1   Pairs: 1   Total: 3

#8 is Jan and Dean, they sung 'Dead Mans Curve' which was about a race between a Corvette and an E-Type (or XKE) so they are connected with car #4 Jaguar E-Type

I think I've got another!

No. 6 is Lindsay Buckingham who sung 'Holiday Road' from National Lampoons Vacation, the film featured car #5 the 'Wagon Queen Family Truckster'

I know at least that 1 is Ike Turner and his Rythm Kings (or Kings of Ryhthm) who (under the name of "Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats", but this is too long a story to explain here) created "Rocket 88", and 8 is a 1949 Olds, and maybe a Rocket 88 indeed.
That I can't exactly say because if it IS an 88, someone playfully erased its Rocket 88 emblem on the trunk.

Tuners 9 are the Brian Setzer Orchestra who did "Brand new Cadillac", and Car 10 is a Cadillac, but it doesn't look quite brand new.

Damned too late!

But still have one (admit little!) chance: Brian Setzer's (tuners 9) former band "The Stray Cats" had a small hit with "Look at that Cadillac" (car 10)

Nope, that's not a brand new Cadillac, so it's not that song.

No problemo: it's only half of Setzer's songs that talk of cars. We just need to listen to all of them.

I've got a good one for the car #10 (1955 Cadillac hearse): Peppermint Harris, who the same year sang "Cadillac Funeral", but I can't find a picture that matches it.

The right band and the right car (generally speaking) were ID'd. Now, what song by that band connects it to the specific car pictures.

Now, if half of Brian Setzer songs speak of cars, half of that half speak of Cadillacs. I found 3 other songs so far (and none seem to match a 1955 Cadillac hearse...)
Nevermind. Complying with the Erbas rule I'll start with this one:
Americano.

The body style is not as important as the year, for the purposes of this puzzle.

I am coming back with 2 possible links between Tune 9 (Brian Setzer Orchestra) and Car 10 (1955 Cadillac). They don't completely satisfy me but...
The first one is the song "Elvis on Velvet". It doesn't specifically refer to Cadillac, but does to driving and 1955, and what car do you imagine Elvis in, except a Cadillac? The problem is that song was created by the Straycats, Brian's first group, and not by the BSO.

My second possible link's  shortcoming is that it's not a tune but an instrument:
- Brian Setzer plays a Gretsch White Falcon, a guitar that was called "the Cadillac of guitars", and introduced in 1955. So all of Setzer's song feature a "1955 Cadillac".

What about this one: Band #5 is Santana, and Car #7, besides being a 1961 Chevy Impala, is a lowrider.
They are linked  by "Low-Rider", a song by Santana.
