« on: December 28, 2008, 06:05:11 AM »
Here we have a set of cars and aeroplanes which have a name in common.
Some are easy (so that's why this starts in the Rookies section) and some are not.
Link the pairs and tell me the makers' names please.

Oh come on someone!
There are some very easy aeroplanes, although I have to say that they are all from Britain or the USofA  (as are the cars).
There are some even easier cars, and a bit of hunting should then reveal the corresponding aeroplane.

I'd expect either of you would get a full house!
I did want to offer the rookies something I thought they'd get some points from - some of the puzzles are (I think) a bit hard for the true rookie, although some of our recent ones were clearly very experienced, just not here.
Here we have 16 cars and 16 planes all of which were series production jobs - not a concept car, worked-over styling exercise or even a prototype anywhere!

Well, I thought, now he's overestimating my knowledge of planes. But within a couple of hours I've managed nine of each. Quite fun, even if I don't get any points for it ;)

At the present rate, you'll still be able to claim the points when it's moved upwards, although I was not intending to do that for a long time ;D

Since this isn't supposed to be an aeroplanes site, I'll give a list of the manufacturers whose work appears above. In alphabetical order we have:
Chrislea
Convair
de Havilland (well, I would, wouldn't I?)
Grummon
Gulfstream America
Handley page
Hawker
North American
Republic
Saunders Roe
Supermarine
Swearingen
Vickers
Vought
Westland

Yes 15 of them - one has two aeroplanes in the collection.

Now I think I've got them all ;) but there'll probably be none left when they reach the Pro level...

I really had hoped the Rookies would have a go first, so I'll leave it a bit - some of our recent good rookies elevated themselves quite soon, so who's there now?

Come on - I've given you the aeroplane manufacturers.
Do you want the car manufacturers too? :(

I tried to set this as an easy puzzle that the Rookies could actually solve, and that's why I left it here with an additional (and very helpful) clue.
I shall move it eventually, of course, but I still hope a rookie will have a go first!

I make that 12 for shiftfocus and 4 for Cabrius
That gives shiftfocus Expert status.

I think I was right to leave this in the rookies section until the right solver(s) came along (although Cabrius seems to have been with us nearly a year)!

One of them only joined us on 11th January - and he's an Expert now!

As I said, it was intended to be fairly easy and that's why I didn't promote it as soon as I would have otherwise.
