A#306 Visiting places - 01 Solved: Donkervoort
« on: December 01, 2009, 01:38:24 PM »
Since the internet technologies allows us to visit different places of the world at several mouse clickings, I decided to post a little bit alternative puzzle. Below You see the workshops of a known car manufacturer. Tell me its name for a point.

It might be too easy, but let's start from the rookies first.

Good luck!

I think that building tells us a lot about why some of us have no empathy with modern buildings. It really could be anything, anywhere, and probably is matched by the appearance of its product!
The instantly recognisable factories of the first half of last century have some character as do their products in my view.
Sorry if that sounds too dismissive, but that's how I feel. ???

I second that.
We can only use our deductive method:
Starting with the obvious:
I think this is not a big manufacturer, of course the building itself doesn't reveal a thing, unless you already knew it, but the parked cars do reveal at least that this place can be in Europe.
The sad style of the place make me think that this is not an atelier were you can see stilish cars (like a Carrozzeria or a centre of design at all!).
The small, overhall dimensions suggest a small factory of handbuilt, or semi-handbuilt cars, like funcars, replicas or kit cars.
Not many windows, so, probably this place is not often hit by the sun...
Small doors, it means that there are no big trucks coming and going with material, assembled parts... and this bring us back to a small make.
The plates of the cars are ureadable but they do not seems to be from UK (that was my first guess).
So, is this place in north Europe

I rather like this puzzle (though I have no idea what this building is).

Posting a well-known, easily identifiable facility doesn't allow for much sleuthing.

Just my 2 cents.

I like it only because we can use our mind.
It's like posting a box and guess wich car was parked in...you just have to tell it from the marks on the floor (oil on the back, rear engined, large marks, big wheels), the spare parts on the shelves or the posters on the wall (a local singer may give you the place)....
...but: are my guesses right: north Europe, small factory of fun cars (like kit cars)?

Somehow it reminds of the way the Dutch built their factory halls (firebricks). And I guess there's at least one yellow plate.

Before I use my mind, I have to have some interest in the subject, and as you see from my tetchy comment above, a characterless box does not attract my interest, whatever is produced in it.
It could well be in England as Euroboxes with yellow plates are common here!

PJ's deduction is great, but Allemano said the correct fact - it is Dutch! :)

Locked for Allemano until his next reply. Then the puzzle is open for all again...

It's Donkervoort in Lelystad.

Another view of this outstanding example of modern factory architecture.... :D

Now I would like to know:
Why, after my detective work (it seems that I was correct in all my guesses) this one was locked for Allemano?

Actually Arunas' pic was the back door view of the Donkervoort workshop. The opposite view is slightly more appealing:

Allemano, your guess was right, and you recognize it by the firebriks.
It's not about that, but since this was just a guessing game, why after a good guess of mine (not the northest part of Europe, but looking from Italy it's quite north  ;D) and another godd guess from you, he should lock the game?
It's an unwritten rule: when you post a guess you know that if it is right you'll give clues to others, unless you are really there and in this case the puzzler may consider unfair that someone fix a reply and stole the point. I don't think that was the case.
But that's not my call.

To be honest: I hadn't released it from 'free for all' either, but as you said: Arunas is the boss in this case.
Regarding the pleasure of the game I completely agree with you, but I won't give Arunas any advices..

...anymore.

Donkervoort is correct. Point for Allemano. Another point for Paul Jaray as his deduction was the key to answer this puzzle knowing the country correctly guessed by Allemano.
Is eveyrybody satisfied?
And no more puzzles of such kind from me.

It was a funny one, I was only disappointed because I felt to be right there and then I had to quit.
Allemano hit the point, and once you knew it was a Duch manufacturer it was a matter of time, indeed.
I do not deserve the point for such basic guesses, and if it was your decision, you can follow it, I already did.  ;)

Wow, he moved up...

I remember visting him at his first place which was behind his house in Westbroek or Loosdrecht, and then his bigger one after that.

But neither one looked like this one...
