India built Standard, most probably a Gazel (newer rear end), and obviously based on the Triumph Herald.

India built Standard: yes
most probably a Gazel: do you stick to it or not?

Yes, as far as I could find out the Standard Herald was a 4-door version of the Triumph Herald (so still with the sharp tailfins), and the model with the facelifted front and rear end was called Gazel.

I have it a a Standard Gazelle MK2, Indian-made, and I don't know who's right about the spelling. Close enough.

Merci  :) I could give you a link with original Standard Gazel brochures and with this very picture as well. In this (rather serious) site they say that the Mk.I and Mk.II designation was not officially used, but the so-called Mk.II had a conventionally opening bonnet and Fiat 1100 door handles. I guess that Gazelle was only used by Singer, but that's a different story.

You're right. I've found the "official" site where I had seen this photo, and I am responsible for the spelling error. It is Gazel.

A period brochure of the car.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia
