This car is quite a bit older than it looks.

How can that date be right?
Cooper MG would have been around in the early 1950s

I tought the same thing, where I found it there's little more: "a very rare and famous road racing car, ready to race, though thoroughly tractable on the road,” as the seller described this aluminum-bodied 1929 Cooper MG, complete with a tuned engine and Borrani wheels. Even before reaching the end of the ad, you can tell the seller’s out of the U.K. because I know few Americans, literate or not, who use the word tractable without a re- prefix. Exactly $4,725 would have bought this cooper out of Kuntsford, Cheshire. " I do not know if there is an MG engine from 1929 in a cooper MK# or bristol body....(and most of all...why!)

I also thought it was a bit modern for 1929, and checked and found it on the Hemmings blog after Paul's answer. I'm no specialist like Allan and I stopped questioning it. The funny thing is that it has disappeared now. Why?
EDIT: It has disappeared if you try in the advanced image search. But you find it by just the advanced search. So maybe just a Google mystery.

The Hemmings blog just reports what it says the seller said. Presumably whoever writes that stuff is not rigorous in his research, and he didn't name his source (save it's Knutsford, Cheshire which means little to me (well I know Knutsford, but not any Cooper owner there))

There was no car maker called Cooper in 1929 and MG engines were either 847cc M type or 2.6litre 18/80.
Cooper MGs were, as I said, a product of the 1950s with 1250cc XPAG engines.
This one looks over-restored and no earlier than that

I think there was another constructor called Cooper in 1919-1923, two models made, a 3-cylinder and a coventry-climax 11hp powered one. But that's not this car of course!

Can we all agree then, that it's a Cooper MG, though not a 1929 example of same?

This car looks way too modern for 1929.  As well as that, John Cooper and his father Charles didn't form the Cooper Car Company until 1948 (John Cooper was six years old in 1929).  The only reference I can find to a 1929 Cooper MG is in either the Hemmings site, or other sites that have copied the information put out by Hemmings.  I would suggest that this is a typographical error on the part of Hemmings and it is actually a 1949 model.  After all, the reference to Kuntsford was (thankfully) a typographical error, so it would seem that Hemmings' proof readers leave a bit to be desired.  There were Cooper MG cars produced in 1949.

And with that, I must revisit your post #4, early in this thread, and declare you were correct in identifying this car at that time. And with that, your 25th point, you are elevated to the rank of Expert AutoPuzzler, entitled to all the honors and benefits occurring thereto.

:cheer: :applause: Well done, sir!  :drink:
