By "special" I was referring to its powerplant.
And yes, the photo was probably taken in northern California, a place called Big Lagoon, so they may be Stanford boys.

The White Steamer was even the presidentīs choice before they were driven around in conventionally engined Lincolns...

White Steamer, yes.

Now, who gets the point ? Karnutz who identified it as a White (the hardest part I'd say), or Grobmotorix who found the steamer part? Is there a rule about that on Autopuzzles ?

Grob got the make and model, so I'd say the point is his.

Since all Whites pre-1910 were steam
a) you don't need to say that it's a steamer to identify it
b) it would only have been "special" had it been i.c.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Since all Whites pre-1910 were steam
Not being a 1900's-1920's specialist, I didn't know that.
And when a puzzler gives the make and I ask him to be more precise, it seems fair to expect HIM to answer (I know it's hard for others to refrain). So I think Karn gets the point.
