Solved - The Car's the Star
« on: August 09, 2008, 06:19:59 AM »
This is a puzzle based on the same idea as Ray B's Horsepower and Otto's Cars and Tuners. Apologies for jumping on the bandwagon.

There are 15 cars and 15 actors, each car shares at least part of its name with one of the actors, 1 point for each correctly identified and paired car and actor, so 15 points in total are on offer.

Some I think are very easy, others quite difficult.

Good luck.

Car 2 - Nissan Cedric
Celebrity 9 - Cedric Yarbrough

Car 13 - Denzel Sport
Star 1 - Denzel Washington

EDIT: I guess it really shows my age that I can't identify any more stars apart from Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman... yikes...

Finishing Ray's one
Car 4 is a Morgan (Plus 4 plus) and Star 15 is Morgan Freeman (I'm told!)

Car 9 is a Bentley Park Ward Drophead and Star 11 is someone called Wes Bentley

Car 8 is a Morris Minor and it's possible that Star 14 is Kathryn Morris (or not, as the case may be)

Car 3's a Henry and star 2's Henry Winkler (as he is now).  Can't think of a Morris to match car 8 - anyone?

Correct so far apart from Star No. 14 who is not Kathryn Morris, and Car No.3 isn't a Henry

I've updated the 'scores so far' list, just 5 more to find, Cars 1, 3, 7, 8, and 11.

Which also means there are 5 Stars left to match to cars, Stars 2, 4, 6, 13, and 14.

Car #1 is a 1929 Swift 10hp Tourer, licence plate DV 5229,
and Star #13 is Clive Swift, of British TV sitcom "Keeping Up Appearances" fame, where he plays the husband of Hyacinth Bucket ("Bouquet").

I would have nailed most of these if I hadn't been so late, two of my biggest interests being cars and (newer) movies, but that's what you get for working when other people are posting puzzles ;)

Edit: Car #11 is a prototype (the "AMP" car) for the Henry J, which looked like that when rediscovered in 1988 (read more about it here: http://home.comcast.net/~ljfid/earlyhj.htm, and, indeed, here: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=2600.0),
and Star #2 is, as has already been said, Henry Winkler.

Another 2 correct guesses, only 3 more to get, numbers 3, 7, and 8, and Stars numbers 4, 6, and 14.

Car #7 is naturally a ca. 1946 Chrysler, let's say a Royal or a Windsor. Royal Dano and Marie Windsor are the only two actors by these name that I would recognize, and they're not here...
Could Star #6 be Frank Windsor?

I'm, um....puzzled.

15 cars; 15 stars. All of the stars have been identified and matched to cars, yet 2 cars remain unidentified.  ???

Aha!
Car 8, as I said before, is a Morris Minor
Star 6, whom I've never heard of before, was Howard Morris.

Correct, Morris Minor and Howard Morris.

Don't be puzzled Otto, there is still Car No. 3 and Star No. 14 left to be identified, unless, of course, I have made a mistake (which is not uncommon for me to do!).

Thanks for that, even though I have no feel for the "stars", and have never before heard of most of them (but as Google has, I was saved!).

I must say that most Thomas Flyers you find look more like this:

I wasn't really familiar with Ms Thomas, but I once I figured out the Flyer, a google image search for "actress thomas" made short work of that.  :)
