Solved: 19. of.All., AMX III proposal by Giugiaro
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:07:07 AM »
1. Who designed this proposal?
2. For which company it was built?
3. Which car was finally presented?

A wild guess; is it the prototype for the Ford GT40 by Lola, called, iirc, the p-car?

Okay, I'm not so sure about this. All I could find was the car Lola built and campaigned themselves (first pic), the car McLaren built and raced (second pic) and the GTP (third pic).

Looking at it again, it looks like the De Tomaso Mangusta.

Sorry, wrong direction! All of the mentioned brands/firms were not involved.

I give you a second view:

time for a help: the car which finally was presented never got into production. It's supposed that only six cars were built.

South America? Brazilia?
1) You want to know the designer?
2) You are talking about the make's country?

American Motors AMX III would have been a better reply, but I wasn't sure that was correct. It was somewhat of a guess, because though it was similar, there are quite a few detail differences, compared to the AMX III that was finally presented. Your picture seems to have some AMX II and AMX III elements to it.

Differing stories about the AMX III's design are peppered around the internet. Some say it was a Teague design, some say it was Vignale, since they built the short prototype run. I suspect it was a Teague idea, cleaned up and brought to life by Vignale.

Some Italians were involved in the AMX/AMC projects: Vignale, Bizzarini for instance, but the white one is definetely designed by another. It's mentioned in well known sources, but you'll hardly find any pics, cos it never was shown to the public.

BTW: Teague was the in-house designer

I know. :)

1969/70 AMX/K Proposal.
"Body?" Dark Grey, prototype for a production run of 1000 units, to be built by Karmann Germany, later droped.
It was cheaper to build the cars in Italy at Bizzarrini's Plant.

Yes that was one part of the sad story, but there's still the mystery car to solve which was somebody else's design...

It looks to have some Tom Tjaarda style to it, or perhaps Marcello Gandini, before he had his morning caffeine.
