Q#90 - solved - Mazda V12 'Amati 1000'
« on: September 16, 2008, 03:33:17 PM »
This is a prototype that never made production. Two points are up for grabs: one for the name of the manufacturer and one for identifying the powerplant

Don't be fooled by the numberplate - this car isn't from Munich

Looks like a Rover, perhaps something after the Honda Legend model, with a Honda engine.

It's not from Rover or Honda but you're not a million miles off

I'd say that grille looks awfully Mazda Xedos to me, maybe an early design for the Xedos 9?

Well done, I've given you one point for the correct manufacturer - Mazda.

This was quite an interesting prototype - for the extra point, what was the powerplant?

It wasn't, by any chance, a Miller cycle engine?

Mazda did put that into production in its US-only Millenia sedan.

I don't think it was a Miller cycle engine. Anyway, that's not what makes this special

Excellent work, yes this is the stillborn V12-engined Mazda. It was going to be launched as the Amati 1000 but was canned in 1992 for the same economic reasons as we see at the moment
